Planning Commission

As our Borough grows and continues to develop, the Planning Commission plays a critical role in helping us manage that growth and balance it with the long-term needs of our community.  Our Planning Commission operates under the guidelines set forth in the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code, and is the first body to review land development applications, zoning change requests, etc.  They work closely with Council to ensure development is balanced with the needs of the Chalfont community.

Historical Arch. Review Board

Borough Council formed the Historical Architectural Review Board (HARB) by ordinance 294A.  In the ordinance, HARB was charged with reviewing changes to structures in the Borough's designated Historic District.  HARB is responsible for recommending to Council whether a "Certificate of Appropriateness" should be issues to allow the applicants' changes to proceed.  The applicant's request is evaluated based on the location, changes being made, effect on historical architectural features, and others.  For more information on HARB, contact the Borough office.

Zoning Hearing Board

The Zoning Hearing Board (and the Zoning Officer) have been designated by Council in accordance with the requirements of the Pennsylvania Municipal Planning Code.  The Zoning Officer has responsibilities for enforcement and administration of the Borough's code.  Zoning Hearing is convened to resolve appeals of decisions made by the Borough's Planning Commission or Zoning Officer.

Chalfont Water Department

The Borough of Chalfont operates its own Water Department, serving residents and businesses in the Chalfont Borough area.  We have interconnection agreements with the North Penn Water Authority to support our local supply in case of emergency.  The Water Department has operated successfully for decades, maintaining high water quality and affordable rates.  Chalfont Water Department:  Clearly Worth Drinking.
